Suffolk County Consumer Affairs is now investigating the Sunoco gas station on East Jericho Turnpike.
Denis Barchi, of Northport, usually comes to the station to fill up, but didn't notice the credit card price until News 12 told him he was paying $6.95 a gallon for using credit.
"It's usually like 10 cents more or five cents more, not $2," says Loannis Giannikakis, of Bay Shore. "That's insane."
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says they are cracking down on gas stations that are charging excessively more for credit.
"This clearly is an important issue when seeing prices like this," Bellone says. "In crisis situations, we want to make sure people are complying with the law."
Andy Harris, who represents Long Island Gas Retailers Association or LIGRA, says there is no law against charging more to use a credit card to pay for gas.
He says consumers need to pay more attention.
"You have to check to see what you're paying for credit card," Harris says. "If you're not happy, hang the pump up and go to the next station."
Bellone tells News 12 that he is going to wait for an investigation by consumer affairs to find out if the gas station will receive a summons or not.
