An East Islip man faces eight years in prison for running down a man and then trying to cover it up.
On Tuesday, Charles Santjer was convicted of hitting 50-year-old Jimmy Rice, of Brentwood, as he crossed Carleton Avenue last year.
Officials say Santjer left Rice bleeding in the road, took off and threw away his damaged headlight.
However, the headlight lens cover left behind was eventually matched to Santjer's Ford pickup truck.
Santjer will be sentenced in September.
Rice survived, but with brain injuries.
