The East Hampton Town Board has approved new helicopter rules aimed at curbing noise.
On Thursday night, the board approved a curfew of 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. for takeoffs and landings at East Hampton Airport. "Noisier" aircraft will be subject to a curfew of 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., and they will be limited to one trip per week, according to East Hampton Councilwoman Kathee Burke-Gonzalez.
The new rules come after residents complained about the noise, especially during the busy summer season.
An earlier proposal to ban all helicopters during summer weekends was scrapped.
