Students in the East Hampton School District will now face Breathalyzer testing if they come to school drunk.

The district approved the controversial plan that was scheduled to start on December 20. The schools are still waiting to receive the device. Many students say the Breathalyzer test violates their civil rights and is an invasion of privacy. Before a Breathalyzer is used, school principal Scott Farina says he and a nurse would talk with and look at the student first. Scott says there has to be reasonable suspicion a student is drunk before the test is administered.

But the only school board member to vote against the policy says school officials should trust their own judgment instead of relying on a device that isn't always accurate and may not apply to the problem.
