An East Hampton doctor is behind bars for allegedly running a multi-million dollar drug ring out of his office. Dr. Michael Chait, 46, is accused of selling prescriptions for the painkiller OxyContin to busloads of people who came from Manhattan and the Bronx. Officials from the state Attorney General's office say the customers would fill the prescriptions through Medicaid, and sell the drugs on the black market. Chait was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as several other felonies. The judge agreed with prosecutors who said Chait is a flight risk and a danger to the community. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
