Two area wineries have recently won big awards at the New York Wine Classic.

More than 600 wines produced by nearly 100 wineries from all across New York State were competing.

Pindar Vineyards won what could be described as the "best in show" for a wine not familiar to a lot of Long Islanders - Gewürztraminer.

Paumanok Vineyards in Aquebogue won Winery of the Year. It's the third time it took home that honor. Paumanok is also a family run operation that goes back to the early days of winemaking on the East End.
