There was mixed reaction from Westhampton residents Thursday on word their police chief is renegotiating his $188,000 a year contract.
Westhampton Beach Police Chief Raymond Dean is currently negotiating his new contract with the Village and is looking for enhancements. He oversees about 16 police officers and gets a 7.9 percent raise every year.
One town official tells News 12 Long Island Dean?s contract expired in December and until a new one is hashed out he will continue to receive the same raise.
Some residents say they?re OK with Dean?s salary because of the town?s low crime rate, while others say it?s just too much.
Westhampton Beach Mayor Conrad Teller wouldn?t discuss the negotiations but says when he was a trustee, he had a lot of concerns about the police chief?s contract. News 12 Long Island reached out to Dean for comment but he was not available.
