Fourth of July is right around the corner and that means the search for waterfront restaurants is in full swing on Long Island.
News 12’s Doug Geed pays a visit to an East End spot that attracts both locals and out-of-state visitors.
At the end of the boardwalk in Greenport -- the side opposite of bustling Claudio's -- you'll find PORT Waterfront Restaurant.
“It is a landmark since I was a kid walking across the Shelter Island Ferry and coming over here. We never want to change it. We love it the way it is. It's got local character, it's got charm. It's what a local bar should be,” says owner Ali Bavaro.
PORT is in its sixth year under husband and wife owners Keith and Ali Bavaro.
As you'd expect there's lots of local seafood on the menu, along with everything from burgers to high end steaks.
For many loyal fans, the thing they'll talk about first is the location of this popular gathering spot -- snuggled in a corner of a busy summer, seaside village.
“We're kind of off the hustle of the village and Main Street and Front Street so you do get to disappear. It is a really nice place to be and a really nice place for the village I think,” says owner Keith Bavaro.
