The East End bore the brunt of the winter storm, which slowed commuters and created icy road conditions.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter said crews were out clearing the roadways since Tuesday morning.

Residents were asked to stay off the roads, but drivers who must head out are being urged to use caution.

Forecasters say snowfall accumulations will reach over a foot in some areas of the East End.

A state of emergency has been declared in Suffolk County, forbidding drivers from parking on some roads that will have to be plowed.
