The East Setauket teacher accused of raping a bartender was arraigned in court Thursday. Thirty-year-old Michael Wachholder, of Rocky Point, pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault and sexual abuse. Prosecutors say Wachholder attacked and raped a bartender at Secrets Lounge in Mount Sinai last month.
Wachholder's attorney insists his client is innocent pointing out that Wachholder voluntarily handed over his DNA. Prosecutors, however, say they're confident Wachholder is guilty, adding the victim saw her attacker face to face and later picked him out of a lineup.
Bond has been set at $350,000, and Wachholder was ordered to wear a GPS tracking bracelet. A DNA test has been completed, but it will take several weeks to get the results. Wachholder has been placed on indefinite leave from Arrowhead Elementary School.
