WHAT TO KNOW
  • Drizzle and fog this morning, remaining cloudy this afternoon
  • Showers overnight
  • Windy, sunny, chilly Friday
  • Breezy downpour Monday
We are tracking showers this evening and a cold snap tomorrow and Sunday.
It's official as of 5:01 a.m. this morning - Spring is here! The sun is now more intense in the Northern Hemisphere than the Southern Hemisphere. Our days are longer than our nights, and warmer weather is about to prevail... but not quite yet.
You'll want to grab the umbrella before you head out the door today. It's a gloomy Thursday on Long Island with fog and drizzle all morning. Some of the clouds will lift after noontime, which will improve visibility. However, it's cloudy all day, and temperatures will struggle to warm up beyond 50°. Showers will begin around 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. , with most of the wet weather ending before 5 a.m. on Friday.
Tomorrow you will need the winter jacket. Temperatures are in the 30s in the morning and mid to upper 40s in the afternoon with sunshine. However, the wind will be strong, with gusts up to 40 mph. The wind will make it feel like it's in the 30s on Friday afternoon.
The weekend If you're looking for mild temperatures, Saturday is the pick out of the weekend. Highs will reach the mid-50s, but there will be more clouds than sunshine. We can't rule out an isolated shower, but for the most part, it's a dry day. Overnight Saturday will be windy and cold.
Sunday morning will start off below freezing, with morning lows near 30 degrees. Sunday afternoon will be sunny and windy with gusts up to 30 mph. High temperatures on Sunday remain in the 40s.
The next storm Monday is looking wet and windy. About an inch of rain is possible, and wind gusts may occasionally reach over 40 mph. This is our best chance of rain in the next 10 days. Most of next week will have seasonable temperatures with highs near 50° and morning lows in the 30s.
