The family of the Seaford man who struck and killed a Valley Stream boy is offering to pay for the 12-year-old's funeral.
As News 12 has reported, Austin Soldano was driving on West Merrick Road last Thursday when he struck Zachary Ranftle, who was walking to school.
Police say the 29-year-old Soldano had a suspended license and a history of arrests. Now, Saldano's family is offering to help pay for Ranftle's funeral or contribute to a scholarship in his name.
However, Paul Ranftle says the offer can never make up for his nephew's life. Ranftle says Soldano's parents want to cover up their son's actions once again. He says Soldano needs to face his responsibilities.
Ranftle says so far Zachary's mother has not made a decision on the offer because she is overwhelmed with grief.
A GoFundMe crowdsourcing campaign had been set up to help the Ranftles pay for funeral costs.
