Two drivers who were arrested following a wrong-way DWI crash in Rockville Centre appeared before a judge Sunday.
The crash happened on Merrick Road shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday. Police say 34-year-old Peter Serra, of Oceanside, was heading west in the eastbound lanes in his SUV near Windsor Avenue. Serra crashed into a car driven by 38-year-old Melody Thompson, of Valley Stream, who was headed east with two passengers in her vehicle.
Police say that both drivers were taken into custody at the scene. Serra is facing charges of vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. Thompson is being charged with driving while intoxicated as well.
The two passengers in Thompson's vehicle were seriously injured in the crash and hospitalized.
Serra and Thompson were arraigned in a Hempstead court Sunday. They are due back in court next month.
