More details are coming to light about the two people killed on the Northern State Parkway this week - including information on the criminal past of the wrong-way driver.
Surveillance video before the crash shows Brittany Vella, 25, driving away from a traffic stop and police in pursuit. She later went the wrong way on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills.
Court records in North Carolina, where Vella previously lived, show that she had previously been charged with drug possession, drug sales, driving without a license and being a fugitive from justice. She also served six months in jail for drug possession.
Sarwan NN, 60, was driving home following a 12-hour shift as a New York City taxi driver when his car was struck head-on by the SUV driven by Vella.
Ranjit Singh, NN's son, says his father came to the U.S. from India 30 years ago and that he worked seven days a week to support his family.
"He basically lived the American dream," says Singh.
No one from Vella's family in Middle Island wanted to speak on camera about her or the crash.
Funerals for both NN and Vella are planned for Saturday.
