A Lindenhurst man has been arraigned on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge following a fatal crash that killed a woman in Huntington Station.
Ryan Gurecki, 34, was held on $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond.
Police say Gurecki was driving westbound on Jericho Turnpike when he struck a truck that was stopped at a red light going westbound, waiting to make a left turn onto Route 110.
According to police, three people in the truck were transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Police say Karen Holden, 56, of Huntington Station, died from her injuries. Holden's husband and driver of the truck, William Holden, 57, suffered a traumatic head injury. Her son, Robert Holden, 23, suffered a back injury. Both were listed in stable condition.
The Holdens were just 10 minutes from their home and had just begun a trip to see another son out of state, police say.
Prosecutors say Gurecki admitted to having five beers earlier in the day at a job site. Gurecki refused a blood test, but police received a warrant. Results are pending.
Gurecki's attorney says prosecutors have no proof of his client's blood alcohol content. Prosecutors say Gurecki could see upgraded charges once the results of the blood test are known.
According to prosecutors, Gurecki has two prior DWI incidents.
