Dozens of motorists got flat tires while driving down a stretch of the Northern State Parkway Saturday night.
State police say more than 70 drivers suffered flats or other vehicle damage between exits 37 and 39 Saturday night, heading eastbound in the Plainview area.
At least 30 drivers had one tire go flat, while another 40 drivers had two tires affected and had to be towed, according to police.
That stretch of road was torn up on Friday for an ongoing repaving project.
A spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation says emergency repairs have since been made on the stretch of road. They added that the area is expected to be completely repaved by rush hour Wednesday morning.
The DOT says it has received about 20 calls from drivers with damaged cars so far.
Affected drivers with verifiable claims should call 718-446-7000, ext. 210, and ask for Sherry. The DOT says all claims are being expedited.
