A Noyac house fire Wednesday night killed nearly three dozen animals.
Thirty-five dogs, cats and other animals were killed in a fire that practically gutted Mindy Washington's home, which also served as a base for Rocky's Fund, a not-for-profit wildlife rehabilitation center.
Dozens more wildlife, including possums, crows, a 7-foot python, rabbits, cats and dogs, survived the fire. Local animal hospitals have taken the animals on a temporary basis. Washington said she looks forward to reuniting with them soon.
"They are our family," Washington said.
Washington said Rocky's Fund either finds new homes for the creatures or provides them permanent sanctuary.
Officials said the fire seems accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.
