A 66-year-old Department of Transportation (DOT) worker was killed in Manorville Friday when he was struck by an out-of-control cement truck.
Police say the truck driver lost control of the vehicle in the midst of a work zone and struck Patrick Mapleson while he was getting out of his truck. DOT officials said the driver was reaching for something on the floor when he veered back into the work zone. Officials say Mapleson was killed instantly.
Mapleson celebrated his 66th birthday Thursday and was named after St. Patrick. He had three children and six grandchildren and is being remembered by colleagues as a hard worker with an old-time work ethic.
