The remains of several dogs were found scattered in a Roosevelt park.

Officials say a man found a skull as he was walking in the Roosevelt Preserve near Prospect Street Monday afternoon. A subsequent investigation discovered the remains of numerous canines that were either buried, placed in black bags or in open view.
Detectives say they found remains of between three and seven dogs. A spokesperson for the Nassau County SPCA said some remains were in pieces, some were bones, and some were in various stages of decomposition.
As News 12 has reported, the SPCA says there have been about half a dozen sightings of animal parts, which investigators believe may be ritualistic killings. Police don't believe Monday's discovery is related.
"It looks like this is somewhat of a pattern and we are looking into that," says Detective Lt. Richard LeBrun, of the Nassau County Police Department.
The animal parts are now being examined to determine the cause of death.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
