Pfizer officially asked the Food and Drug Administration Thursday to authorize its coronavirus vaccine for emergency use for children ages 5 to 11.
Dr. Sharon Nachman says she is looking forward to the vaccine being available for younger children.
“This is very exciting news,” Nachman says. “We need to move these vaccines out for school-age children.”

The move can’t come soon enough for parents who want to have their children vaccinated, but some are still skeptical.
“I just don’t believe there is enough information out there,” says Joseph Simeone of Seaford. “I’m not comfortable. We’re not comfortable.”
Experts say it’s important to get younger children vaccinated to help prevent a surge of cases when colder weather could drive people indoors.
The vaccine for younger children could be available by the end of October.
