Starting today, residents can find out if they qualify for a disaster recovery loan from the state.

The money is set to help Long Islanders who dealt with flooding after the rainstorm in September.

The record-breaking rain was so severe it damaged homes and businesses.

The state says federal loans are available to help homeowners, renters, nonprofits and businesses.

A Disaster Loan Outreach Center opens this morning in Mineola. The center will help residents with applications and questions.

The center will be set up at the Legislative building in Mineola. It will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The center closes Dec. 22.
