Nina Mackenzie is a single working mom of 2-year-old twins.
Mackenzie relies on an organization called Allied Foundation for her daughters' diapers.
"I've had to choose between food and diapers on occasion," said Mackenzie.
Allied Foundation was formed years ago when pediatricians were seeing babies with diaper rashes and infections because their families couldn't afford diapers.
As a result, the babies were either wearing diapers for longer than they should or even rewearing them.
Heather Edwards is executive director of Allied Foundation.
She told News 12 they've seen a "surge in need" on Long Island.
Allied gives out more than 600,000 diapers every year, and to date has given out millions in total.
Allied works with partner agencies across Long Island, which distribute the diapers to parents in need.
