Officials unveiled plans to redevelop the area around Nassau Coliseum at a public meeting in Mineola Wednesday night.
Nearly 80 acres of land known as the Nassau Hub have remained a parking lot for decades.
The proposal from Syosset-based developer Blumenfeld Development Group would primarily build new facilities for entertainment and retail.
But according to Newsday, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has a different vision for the redevelopment of the Nassau Hub -- something "transformational and bold."
It's a development Newsday says would rival the $1 billion plan for a new Islanders arena at Belmont Park. It would include a biotech park, housing, pedestrian walkways and a rapid bus transit system connecting the site to the Mineola and Hempstead Long Island Rail Road stations.
News 12 Long Island reached out to Curran's office, but she was unavailable.
