Top-ranking Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut and U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner of Virginia, are demanding access to a whistleblower complaint report.
They sent a letter to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard raising concerns about the handling of a whistleblower complaint and the subsequent withholding of the intelligence report from congressional oversight committees. By law, they say, it was supposed to be turned over to Congress within three weeks, but the highly redacted report wasn’t sent until almost nine months later. The DNI office cited executive privilege for the redactions.
AP News reports that the anonymous author of the complaint works for a U.S. intelligence agency and in May filed a report claiming Gabbard withheld classified information for political reasons.
