Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Melville Sunday for a get-out-the-vote rally to support his fellow Democrats.
In the final stretch before Election Day, many Democrats say they're feeling bullish about their chances, especially in the state Senate. Republicans currently hold the majority, but Democrats are hoping to seize on uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the presidential election and the recent corruption arrests of several prominent Republicans in Nassau.
Standing in the way of the Democrats controlling all three branches of state government is Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and his Long Island Republican state Senate colleagues.
State Senate candidate Elaine Phillips received a warm welcome from her party faithful at a Republican rally in West Hempstead. Flanagan says he believes voters will elect Phillips and other Republicans because he says the GOP has a proven track record in Albany.
Voters will head to the polls on Nov. 8.
