Police say the incident happened on the corner of Hickory Street and Washington Avenue around noon. According to investigators, the victim had just gotten off a school bus when a car backed up to her. The driver then scooted over to the passenger seat of the vehicle and tried to grab the girl through the window. Authorities say the child screamed, pulled away and ran to a neighbor?s house for help.
Area residents say the incident makes them realize the neighborhood is not as safe as they thought. Police ask anyone with information to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at -1-800-220-TIPS.
