A DEC investigation at a building in Bay Shore is part of a statewide crackdown on illegal dumping.
Investigators with the state Department of Environmental Conservation descended on 1600 Harrison Ave. in Bay Shore yesterday. They searched dirt, debris and the back of trucks.
As News 12 has reported, state environmental officials were tipped off to the site in May through an anonymous email. That tipster also said illegal dumping operations were being run out of Cox Lane in Cutchogue and Blue Point Road in Holtsville.
In June, the DEC charged two truck drivers with illegal dumping for allegedly bringing waste material from the Harrison Avenue site and dumping it in a town in Ulster County.
The state DEC commissioner says they've put more resources into cracking down on illegal dumping since February. He's also pushing for the state to add new regulations, including making it easier to track construction waste.
The DEC has since left the site on Harrison Avenue. Business records show that several hauling and construction companies operate out of it. News 12 left messages for two of them but did not receive a response.
The state DEC commissioner wouldn't say what, if anything, was found at the site.
