About two dozen Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officials descended on a Yaphank farm Thursday looking for evidence of illegal dumping.
The DEC executed search and inspection warrants on the Liere Farm and will test material that it finds there. DEC officials say land clearing debris and yard waste has been accepted at the property without the proper authorization. They say they also have reason to believe that waste products have been dumped on the land.
Property owner Robert Liere says the farm is used to grow pumpkins and potatoes. Liere could be ordered to clean up the land within 30 days, depending on the DEC?s findings.
