The owner of a Nassau day care center is accused of a physically abusing a 6-year-old girl.
Police say Carolyn Reid, owner of His Word Day Care in Roosevelt, abused the child when she refused to wear her seatbelt on a bus. The alleged incident happened Friday morning when a bus attendant asked Reid to help put the girl's belt on.
After dropping the child off at school, the bus driver told school officials about the alleged abuse. They then called police and had the girl checked out at the hospital. She was not hurt.
Reid, 73, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and is due in court on Jan. 25.
His Word Day Care has operated out of a home on Maple Drive for about 15 years, News 12 is told.
