The daughter of a city firefighter from Long Island who was killed on 9/11 is following in her father's footsteps.
Hundreds of probationary firefighters graduated in Brooklyn today, and among them was Mastic native Josephine Smith.
Smith is the first daughter of a parent killed in the line of duty on 9/11 to be hired by the FDNY.
Smith's father Kevin was killed responding to the terror attacks.
News 12 caught up with Smith right after she graduated, and she said she's always wanted to be a firefighter.
Along with Smith, Garden City's Annette Astaiza and two other women helped to push the number of female firefighters and officers to 44.
The number is the most women to ever work in the FDNY as firefighters.
