The retired NYPD officer who is accused of killing his wife in their Lake Grove home pleaded not guilty from a hospital bed Thursday, but prosecutors say he has admitted to the killing.
Prosecutors say that Paul Leitgeb has admitted to hitting his wife, Tricia Odierna, in the head with a baseball bat and then strangling her. Her body was found in their home last Thursday.
Leitgeb reportedly slashed himself with a box cutter before being taken into state police custody in upstate New York Tuesday.
Suffolk County police detectives transported him to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he's recovering.
