The 11 p.m. curfew at gyms, fitness centers and a number of other businesses on Long Island and in New York was lifted Monday.
Also on the list are movie theaters, bowling alleys, billiard halls and casinos.
Jessica Hipp, the owner of SC Fitness, is happy about the curfew extension.
"It's good that we're moving the needle at all," says Hipp. "It does great things for 24-hour facilities who are most impacted by that."
Joe LaSpina, the owner of Maple Lanes in Rockville Centre, says he can now stay open till midnight on weeknights and 1 a.m. on the weekends.
"As silly as it sounds, those extra hours at the end of the night allows us one not to chase our customers out," says LaSpina. "We've had to with our capacity limits to change our whole schedule around."
Other COVID-19 restrictions are still in place such as capacity limits. LaSpina says his business requires masks and staggers guests in every other lane.
Hipp says she would like to see the capacity limits lifted at gyms, adding that the gym follows the 6-feet distancing guidance.
However, an 11 p.m. restriction is still in place for bars and restaurants.
