Crews working on the Long Island Rail Road Expansion Project made major progress this weekend by replacing an existing bridge.
MTA officials say this is another major milestone in the Third Track Project.
The deputy project director says in the past 24 hours, crews replaced the bridge that carries the main line of the LIRR over Glen Cove Road.
The work is the reason train service is suspended between Mineola and Hicksville this weekend.
In addition to replacing the 78-year-old bridge in Carle Place, crews also raised the bridge to 14 feet so trucks can pass underneath.
This work is part of the plan that would add a third track along an approximate 10-mile stretch from Floral Park to Hicksville.
MTA officials say the project remains on schedule to put third track in service in fall of 2022.
