Saddle River has issued an aggressive wildlife alert after a resident on Burning Hollow Road reported that their small dog was attacked by a coyote and taken into the woods on Wednesday, according to police.

The dog has not been recovered. Tyco Animal Control is involved in the investigation.

Officials are reminding residents that January through March is considered coyote mating season in New Jersey. Males can become more aggressive during this period.

Residents are urged to keep pets and children supervised outside. Officials recommend walking dogs on a leash and carrying a hazing tool such as an air horn, whistle, or stick.

Police are asking residents to be cautious and report any aggressive or sick wildlife.
