A suspect accused in the assault of two women in their 70s during two home burglaries in Mastic Beach tried to rape one of the victims, according to court records.
Police say 42-year-old Derrick Clancy shared graphic details when he confessed to the crime. Clancy allegedly punched a 75-year-old woman in the face repeatedly and took her clothes off.
The 42-year-old homeless man also told police on Sunday that he used a brick to smash a window and climb into the woman's home while she was sleeping just before 1 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 17.
Authorities say Clancy also entered a home through an unlocked window and assaulted a 78-year-old a week earlier at around 4 a.m. on Oct. 10.
Police say both women were alone at the time of the assaults and are recovering from injuries that are not life-threatening.
Police arrested Clancy at 3:45 p.m. Saturday on Carleton Avenue in Central Islip.
A $5,000 reward was previously offered for his arrest.
Clancy is scheduled to face a judge on Monday morning.
