A court officer from Lake Grove is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a courthouse stairwell.
Sgt. Tim Nolan was indicted Monday morning on criminal charges.
According to court documents, the alleged victim says she was at a Brooklyn criminal court last October to bail out her boyfriend for an unrelated matter. She says Sgt. Nolan, who was on duty and in uniform at the time, tricked her into believing he could help with the bail.
The 26-year-old woman says Nolan then lured her into a stairwell, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her and forced her to perform a sex act.
"He allegedly abused his authority to exploit a young woman who needed assistance to gratify himself," says the acting Brooklyn district attorney. "Such conduct will not be tolerated and we will now seek to hold him accountable for this despicable act."
Nolan is charged with official misconduct, coercion, public lewdness and exposure. He was released without bail.
Other outlets have reported that Nolan has been suspended without pay since November, but News 12 has not been able to confirm those reports.
News 12 made multiple calls to the state Court Officer's Association for comment, but those calls have not been returned.
