A Suffolk couple celebrated their wedding in the hospital after a special delivery arrived ahead of schedule.
Michael and Regina Enrico planned to get married surrounded by friends and family in Vermont.
Things took an unexpected turn when Regina Enrico, who was nearing the end of her pregnancy, went in for a doctor's visit and had dangerously high blood pressure.
With guests already en route to their Vermont ceremony, they had to cancel their wedding.
"We thought that would be the end of it for the time being, ‘Alright we have to cancel the wedding, she'll be in the hospital for a while.’ But later that day, Friday night around 10 p.m., they said you'll probably meet your daughter in the next couple of hours here,” says Michael Enrico.
In the early hours of June 23, on what was supposed to be their wedding day, the Enricos welcomed baby Isabella into the world - a month premature.
Hearing their story, the staff at Stony Brook University Hospital put together a ceremony in the neonatal ICU so baby Isabella could attend her parents’ wedding.
Baby Isabella is still in the hospital, but she's healthy and growing every day.
The Enricos say they'll likely have a party to celebrate their wedding after Isabella comes home.
