Swatting and scratching can ruin a perfect summer day. Nature comes alive in the summer months, bringing bugs with it. Circana’s chief retail analyst says they are rampant this year.
“Expect it to be a year of the bug,” said Marshal Cohen.
Getting them to buzz off is no easy feat and the type of treatment you utilize really depends on the type of pest you are dealing with. For mosquitoes, many start with simple yard supplies, like candles.
“Think about getting more than just one citronella candle. [One] runs between $5 and $8,” said Cohen.  “Tiki torches, you can get them as little as $8, and they run up to about $20.”
If you are looking for a more wide-scale solution, a professional spray is another option.
“That runs between $85 to $200, depends on the size of your yard, and there may be more times that you have to do more applications.”
If it is bees that are bugging you, you must proceed with caution as they play a vital role in our ecosystem and food supply. If, however, their presence becomes dangerous, it is best to bring in professionals.
“That could cost about $120 to close to $500 to rid yourself of some of these infestations,” said Cohen.
Ticks tick many people off. They carry disease and pose a risk not only to people, but also to pets. Cohen recommends daily checks and pet medication that can run you as little as $10 a pack.
If you take proper precautions, you should be able to handle an unavoidable part of a season that is already flying by.
