Police suspect foul play in the disappearance of a 15-year-old boy from Greenport they say has been missing for more than one week.
Authorities say Eber Lopez, who is living in Greenport to work and earn money for his family in Guatemala, has been missing since June 7. Detectives say Lopez was last seen at a party on Wild Cherry Lane in Southold June 6.
"It appears that during the party, he was confronted by men, possibly gang members, and he has not been seen since," Deputy Inspector Robert Oswald says.
Oswald says the alleged gang members may be responsible for Lopez's disappearance. A woman living at the Wild Cherry Lane home hid her face when News 12 Long Island knocked on the door and no one else answered.
Police say Lopez was never enrolled in high school and came to the United States to work. According to Lopez's uncle, David Lopez, his nephew works at a deli in Cutchogue. The deli owner had no comment about Lopez's disappearance.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call 631-852-6392.
