Police say an in-car dispute caused a crash that shut down Sunrise Highway for hours Monday morning.
Police say a 22-year-old male driver and four passengers were heading east on the highway in Seaford shortly before 4 a.m. when an argument erupted in the car. A female rear passenger, identified as 19-year-old Leanne Gilzeane, began to strike the unidentified driver, according to police.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. An 18-year-old female rear passenger was ejected from the vehicle into the roadway, and a 17-year-old male rear passenger was partially ejected. Both teens are listed in critical condition.
A 23-year-old male passenger who was sitting up front was treated and released from the hospital.
Gilzeane and the driver were hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Gilzeane is being charged with second-degree reckless endangerment. Police say she will be arraigned when it is "medically practical."
