(AP) - Police are advising Long Island homeowners toverify repair workers' identifications after a rash of burglariesby bandits posing as repairmen.
Nassau County police described the scam Friday: Two men dressedas water or telephone company employees tell homeowners they have aproblem that requires immediate repair. While one man distracts thehomeowners, the other steals cash from the house.
Several burglaries have been reported in North Massapequa andRoslyn Heights since February 11. The suspects also entered twoPlainview homes but stole no money there.
Police believe the suspects were in East Meadow on Friday. Theysay a homeowner saw a man dressed as a telephone repairman in herbackyard. When she questioned him, he fled to a waiting car anddrove away.
