Police released surveillance video Friday in hopes of finding the man who allegedly attacked a 7-Eleven clerk based on the color of his skin.
On June 13, a white male between the age of 30 and 35 walked up and punched the clerk at the Oakdale 7-Eleven on Sunrise Highway, Suffolk Police Deputy Inspector Mark Griffiths said. Griffiths said when caught, the suspect would be charged with second-degree aggravated harassment because of what he said while he threw the punch.
"[He] shouted 'you terrorist!' and walked out of the store," Griffiths said.
According to police, the 56-year-old victim, whose identity was not released, is a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent. The clerk never saw the suspect in the store before, police said.
Police are hoping someone recognizes the suspect from the video surveillance tape. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
