A man is accused of puncturing tires on more than a dozen vehicles in and around Deer Park.
Police say 56-year-old Scott Silverman, of Deer Park, vandalized at least 19 vehicles in parking lots at the Deer Park Public Library, Strike 10 Lanes bowling alley, Stop & Shop and Waldbaum's.
According to police, the damage was done between early last October and the beginning of November.
Lou Seda, the owner of the bowling alley, says he noticed his tires were punctured after work one night. He says he had to get his car towed and have the tire replaced. Some of his employees' cars also had their tires punctured, including one worker who had it happen twice.
Investigators say Silverman's motive remains unclear, although he allegedly said that someone had once slashed his own tires. He did not respond to reporters' questions as he was led into court today.
A neighbor who lives by Silverman said he was surprised to hear of the alleged spree. "He doesn't seem like the type of guy to do that," said Frank Gallo.
Silverman was ordered held on $24,000 bail at his arraignment.
