Police are hunting for the person who hurled a chunk of wood at a Nassau County police ambulance driver, hitting him on the head Thursday.
Authorities say Regis Beneville was hit and ran into a utility pole when the wood sailed through his driver's side window in North Bellmore around 2:30 a.m. Beneville was en route to a 911 call, but ended up being treated himself.
Beneville suffered back and neck injuries, but is expected to be OK. Officials are outraged over the incident.
"If they weren't looking to hit a police vehicle, they had other opportunities to throw it," said Nassau Detective Lt. Karl Schoepp.Nassau Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey said there were three other people in the dark-colored sedan who didn't throw the wood. He urged them to come forward now before they end up facing charges themselves.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
