Two Suffolk police officers helped deliver a premature baby boy Thursday in an emergency call they won?t soon forget.
First Precinct officers James O'Hagan and James Spoerel responded to a 911 call for a medical emergency at a Wyandanch home after 4 a.m. They say they found a woman screaming in pain and about to give birth. Ambulance personnel arrived soon after and assisted in the delivery of Patrice Green?s baby.
The baby boy weighed just over 2 pounds. Green?s condition required the full attention of the ambulance personnel, so the officers stabilized the baby by giving him oxygen and took him to the hospital. Green was then transported to the same hospital by ambulance.
O?Hagan and Spoerel say they were a bundle of nerves during the whole event, but stayed focused.
Mother and child remain in stable condition at Good Samaritan Hospital.
