Suffolk police exercised a new DWI law Thursday after an alleged Rocky Point robbery turned into a high-speed car chase.
Police say 47-year-old Steven Dziurzynski, of Mount Sinai, attempted to break into a King Road home in Rocky Point before they chased him 15 miles to Ronkonkama. According to police, Dziurzynski was drunk and high at the time of the incident. Utilizing the finer points of a new driving while ability impaired law, cops will use drug influence and alcohol as evidence.
The driving while ability impaired charge is a misdemeanor, as opposed to a standard ticket violation. Dziurzynski was also arraigned on stalking and reckless driving charges.
