Suffolk police say a drunken driver crashed into three parked cars and then a fire hydrant in Brentwood Saturday night, forcing the street to be closed due to flooding.
Jose Ramon Ortez, 30, has been charged with drunken driving and driving without a license. Police say he was involved in a minor car crash before hitting three parked cars and plowing into a hydrant on Merrill Street. The street was flooded with water from the hydrant before it froze and turned to ice over night. Residents say they had difficulty reaching their homes and witnessed a few neighbors struggling on the ice.
?My neighbor ... I hope she doesn?t have to go to the hospital,? Judith Nino says. ?She fell last night.?
Merrill Street was open on Sunday, though still caked in mud.
