Police say a domestic disturbance in Long Beach led to the discovery of a huge cache of illegal weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Police were called to a home on East Market Street on Friday after 31-year-old Daniel Gobic allegedly tried to choke his girlfriend. During the investigation, police say Gobic admitted to having weapons in the home.

Authorities say that illegal, unlicensed guns were laying all over the house, including under some laundry. In all, police say they found several illegal assault weapons, handguns and shotguns, plus large-capacity magazines and more than 4,700 rounds of ammunition.

Gobic is now facing 51 felony weapons charges.

Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney says there's "no indication and no justification" as to why Gobic had the so-called arsenal. "This was just a person who had an obsession with weapons," Tangney says.

Officials say Gobic moved to Long Island from Florida, where he had purchased the weapons. He spent a short time living in Great Neck before moving to Long Beach.

Neighbors were shocked to learn of the weapons cache found on their block.
