Suffolk police Tuesday charged a man who has already spent 32 years in prison with the murder of a Coram woman and her son.
Fernando De Campoamor, of Mt. Sinai, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Police say the 59-year-old man fatally shot girlfriend Amelia Garcia, 52, and her 30-year-old son Ferneliz Cruz in Cruz's home Saturday. Cruz's wife, Yessenia Hernandez, discovered her husband and mother-in-law on the kitchen floor later that night.
Cruz died at Stony Brook University Medical Center Monday night, while Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. Police say De Campoamor murdered one person in the 1960s and another person in the 1980s. They report the suspect was involved in two other shootings between the murders and was on parole at the time of the Saturday night murders.
