Celebrating Christmas Eve during a pandemic was anything but normal, but for some families it meant traditions that couldn't be followed for safety reasons.
The Feast of the Seven Fishes is part of a holiday meal for many Italian Americans.
A seafood company in Copiague that typically doesn't sell directly to consumers – switched gears during the pandemic and started offering retail services.
GraBar Fish Company decided to also take custom requests for fish entrees this holiday season, so Long Islanders could feel some sense of normalcy.
The feast was introduced by Italian immigrants in New York City's Little Italy in the late 1800s.
"There's a strong connection with food and friendship family neighbors. People really, really appreciated being able to carry over traditions this Christmas as well they seem to really enjoy the options that were offered," says Bart Molin, of GraBar Fish Company.
Molin and his wife say the reactions from customers were phenomenal.
